Kamala Harris Birth Chart
We begin by noting that Kamala has her Sun in Libra and Moon in Aries. The Sun represents the basic individuality while the Moon denotes the subconscious, habits, ways and means.
This Sun/Moon combination gives Harris a friendly nature and one who seeks harmony but also who likes adventure. Aries is also the sign of the pioneer, one who breaks new ground. There is a streak of restlessness, particularly with a Gemini Ascendant.
Kamala is outgoing, has a need to communicate and another for fun. [Gemini Rising, stelllium in Virgo, Venus trine Jupiter] Her mind is logical and analytical. [Mercury in Scorpio trine Saturn, Venus, Uranus, and Pluto in Virgo]
Harris has integrity and likes structure and organization. [Sun trine Saturn, Mercury trine Saturn with Sun and Mercury conjoined]
5 of 11 planets (Chiron is included) are in fixed signs. Kamala can use stubbornness as a means to solve problems.
4 planets are in earth signs, the dominant quadruplicity. She is down to earth and practical.
With a 5th House Sun and Mercury and a Gemini Ascendant, there is a desire for creative self-expression through communication. The 5th House placement reinforces the Moon’s need for adventure.
Mars is in dramatic, ambitious Leo and placed in the lower house of the mind. This 3rd House placement makes her alert, enthusiastic, energetic, and a bit argumentative. (Astrology by Ronald C. Davison, p. 90, 1963) It is heavily aspected. Here are the aspects: A trine to the Moon- honest, sincere, inclined to do what she wishes. Jupiter square and Saturn opposed have largely opposite effects and probably cancel each other out. A square from Neptune-perhaps adds a little sensitivity.
Saturn, the planet of restriction, delay, and what we feel we lack, is in the 9th House of higher education and the law. Kamala is a serious, deep thinker with good concentration. [Mercury in Scorpio too] (Parker, The Compleat Astrologer, p. 98, 1990 edition)
Harris’ Black Moon Lilith is in Capricorn. It represents our shadow. In Capricorn it often gives “an unrelenting drive for success and recognition.” (authorityastrology.com)
Kamala’s Chiron, the wounded healer, is in Pisces in the 10th House. She can perhaps heal her own wounds by being compassionate toward others in her career.
Harris was Supported in Her Early Career by Willie Brown
Kamala Harris is the first woman of color to hold the nation’s second highest office. Her father was from Jamaica while her mother called India home. The parents divorced, and she was largely raised by mom.
Harris’ early career was aided by powerful California Assembly Speaker Willie Brown. They dated. He was married but estranged from his wife. Brown would sometimes take his wife and one of his girlfriends to a social function. He appointed her to the California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board and then the Medical Assistance Commission. These positions paid her over $400,000 for five years. Brown also gave Harris a BMW. (USA Today, “Former SF Mayor Willie Brown writes about dating Kamala Harris, appointing her to posts,” William Cummings, updated January 27, 2019)
Willie Brown helped the careers of a host of politicians including Senator Dianne Feinstein, Governor Gavin Newsom, and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. He said Harris was the only one who threatened to send him to jail if he did anything wrong.
When Harris ran for District Attorney, Brown supported her, but she tried to distance herself from him because of corruption allegations. She said he “was an albatross hanging from my neck.” (Ibid)
District Attorney, California Attorney General, and the U.S. Senate
In her successful election for District Attorney in San Francisco in 2004, Kamala ran against Vincent Hallinan’s son, Terence. Vincent was a very famous trial lawyer. The overall conviction rate for the office increased substantially. She tightened loopholes in bail and drug programs. (Wikipedia, “Kamala Harris”)
In 2011 Harris very narrowly won an election for Attorney General of California. She supported local district attorneys even where they had used false confessions and perjury to obtain convictions. (Ibid)
After Barbara Boxer retired from the U.S. Senate, Kamala ran to replace her, won, and was sworn in in 2017. Harris was pro-choice and favored gun control. She also favored decriminalizing marijuana. (Ibid)
U.S. Presidential Candidate
In 2020 President Biden selected her as his running mate. He declined a second term in 2024 thus opening the door for her to run for the nation’s highest office.
Viewing Kamala’s natal chart and her career concurrently, we see a very ambitious and pragmatic person with a touch of idealism always on the hunt for a higher position. She seems to value honesty and integrity.
