SunShines: The Astrology of Being Happy By Michael Lutin – Book Review

“Just as you’re laughing merrily along, zing! A revelation hits you from out of nowhere. This book is full of surprises. Not only are sun signs elucidated in Lutin’s inimitable style, but . . . obsessions can be healed and destinies fulfilled.” — Glenn Perry, Ph.D., director, Academy of AstroPsychology

SunShines is a unique and original astrology book that’s likely to tell you things about yourself that could make you cringe, and tell you things about others you’d probably rather not know. But trust me, as you read you’ll be laughing.

SunShines contains no astrological jargon which means it’s appropriate for the astrologically curious and the student of astrology, yet it’s intriguing enough for a seasoned astrologer. Some of it is funny, and some of it is dark, but it’s easy to use and brings wit and clarity to how complicated each Sun sign actually is and what you need to do to be fulfilled and happy.

This is probably not a book you’ll read from cover to cover. However, I would suggest you read the introduction, “The Power of the Sun,” before flipping to your Sun sign.

Excerpt From the Introduction

“How is it possible that everybody born during a given month could be destined for the same fate?

The answer is, it isn’t possible at all. Lots of other factors come into play in determining your destiny. It depends on the year you were born, time of day, place on earth, and all the jazz.  Whether you’re a family type person, a whiz at business, or a restless raconteur depends a lot on other celestial influences. These factors determine the planetary forces that bring people and situations into your life to support or thwart your great plans. Later in the book we’ll deal with the most profound of those forces- the path of the Moon across the zodiac.”

At the end of his intro, Lutin writes (“P.S. Secret message to astrologers: this is a Node book based on the Solar Chart.”) On the following page instructions are given on how to use the book.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

In SunShines you won’t find the typical “Cancers are home loving” and “Virgos are practical.” Lutin writes about the good, bad and ugly of each sign.

Among other things Lutin writes this about Cancers and Virgos:

“Many Cancers shrink in horror from the idea of a permanent home. Every two years they move, often further and further away from their birthplace, probably because they dread the thought of ending up like their mothers…”

“To err is human. Admitting it is almost impossible for Virgos. Your perfectionism probably goes all the way back to diaper days and whether you were made to feel like the worst little baby in the world if you did it in your pants…”

He writes about a sign’s true motives, something most would rather not admit, and then provides alternatives to the patterns of behavior that may be holding you back from living a happy fulfilling life.

SunShines points to the pitfalls and obsessions that can be stumbling blocks for you. But it doesn’t just expose your likely pitfalls and obsessions then leave you hanging. In Part two, “Going Deeper,” Lutin also provides keywords that point out some techniques that can help bring you closer to happiness. You can find a 72 page preview of SunShines here.
