Secular Force Versus Spiritual Power

When I was a School Psychologist, a colleague told me about a bestselling book entitled Power Versus Force. It was written by Dr, David R. Hawkins, M.D., a psychiatrist. [DOB June 3, 1927] In the book Hawkins wrote about an occurrence in his childhood. David had a newspaper route. He was delivering papers when a blizzard occurred. He grew sleepy and burrowed into the snow. Hawkins felt a hand on his shoulder but did not want to leave. He was in a peaceful state and saw a golden tunnel. David said he allowed himself to be pulled out of the snow because he loved his father. After that, Hawkins had no fear of death. Once he was in an inner-city neighborhood. Two rival gangs began to form to fight. Hawkins said he sent out love, and they laughed instead.

Dr. Hawkins, a Gemini, had his Moon in either Cancer or Leo. He had a stellium in Cancer—Pluto 14 d 35’, Venus 25 1,’ Mars 28 13.’ The Moon will range from about 25 d Cancer to 7 d Leo. The chart is notable for the number of positive aspects. [Venus and Mars are both trine Jupiter. Saturn at 3 d 44’ Sagittarius is in the beneficial aspect to Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and the Moon] Hawkins probably was an extrovert. Things came easily to him. He was social yet responsible. There is also an elemental lack, for nothing is in earth if Chiron at 4 d Taurus is excluded. The strong Saturn makes up for that. The chart type is the bucket with Saturn forming the handle. The energies of the planets are channeled through it. With the Sagittarius placement, the philosophic interests can be seen.

Beginning Steps on a Spiritual Path

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. [The Golden Rule, Matthew 7:12, Luke 6:31] How easy to say, how hard to do when angry or frightened. Those prevent spiritual power. One must be courageous and tranquil.

If one has accepted Christ as his or her savior, out of their faith will come the desire to do good works. [Aquarian psychiatrist Alfred Adler said, “Do one good deed a day.”]

If you tweak the tail of a tiger, don’t expect good results. Christ led an exemplary life, yet he was hounded and persecuted. Authority figures wish to remain such and will resist those who oppose them. They use ratings, reprimands, threats, dismissal, and even murder to get their way. This is force. Christ said to lead one must be a servant to others. That is spirit.

[Astrological Note: Those with fixed signs* who acquire power often seem the worst at wielding it. They are set in their ways and stubbornly hold to their beliefs, often faulty. We see Adolf Hitler, a Taurus with a Capricorn Moon, using his oratorical skills to spread a pathology of hate. Benito Mussolini, a Leo with a Gemini Moon, liked to use violence and show off but started a needless war with Ethiopia. Fidel Castro gave long dramatic orations but was never able to raise the majority of Cubans from poverty. They would brook no interference with their rule.

One notable exception was Oliver Cromwell, the Lord Protector. Tired of the abuses of Charles I, a Scorpio, Cromwell created a New Model Army during the English Civil War and defeated the Royalists. Cromwell was a dictator for a short while but returned to farming. His chart, as astrologer Evangeline Adams said, really was one of a man of iron. Cromwell, a Taurus, had a Virgo Moon with perhaps the end of Pisces or Aries Rising. Mars, Uranus and Pluto all fell in Aries in the 1st House. Of Charles I Cromwell said, “In the name of God, go!”]

Virtue is its own reward. Don’t expect gratitude over the long haul because you have done a good deed(s). Many people have short memories. Yet that is the right path. Christ cured the sick, the lame, the blind, and those with mental problems. On one occasion he healed a group of lepers. Only one came back to thank him.

Mother Teresa and Princess Diana passed away on the same day. The majority of the publicity went to Diana, perhaps more of a work in progress. When he performed miracles, Jesus often told the recipients not to tell others. However, faith plus good works will provide one with a clear-thinking mind and a ticket to heaven.

[Note: Mother Teresa was a Virgo with a Taurus Moon. Princess Diana had a Cancer Sun with the Moon in Aquarius. Mars, Pluto, and Uranus were in the 8th House]

Most people live in the secular world with its delights—See’s Candy, margaritas, ice cream, relationships, fashion, sports, streaming, new cars, and fancy houses. It is hard to walk an invisible, spiritual path and pray to one not with us in physical form. Remember this: Christ could reach only a relative few when alive. As spirit he has helped many. Find Him and accept Him.

In the parable of the tares (Matthew 13:24), Christ spoke about how different people would accept his teachings. I think many are well-intentioned but have beliefs and values contrary to his. They twist Scripture to fit those beliefs.

Dictators blame others when things go wrong. They have high control needs. They kill those with opposing beliefs. That is brute force. Christ said, “Love your neighbor and help others.” That is spirit.

[Dictators: Aries: Papa Doc Duvalier, April 14, 1907, *Taurus: Pol Pot, May 19, 1925, Saddam Hussein, April 28, 1937, Ayatollah Khomeini, May 17, 1900, Ho Chi Minh, May 19, 1890, Capricorn: Hideki Togo, December 30, 1884, possibly Joseph Stalin, may be a Sagittarius like Francisco Franco, December 4, 1892, Augusto Pinochet, November 25, 1915]

[Those on a Spiritual Path: John Gibson Paton (May 24, 1824)- A Gemini Scottish missionary who converted natives to Christianity in the New Hebrides Islands in the South Pacific. Previous missionaries had been eaten, for the natives were cannibals. In Aniwa he built a home, a mission headquarters, a church, two orphanages, and a schoolhouse. He learned the natives’ language and wrote it down. The whole island was converted to Christianity. (Christian Hall of Fame: Canton Baptist Temple, christianhof.org)

Sojourner Truth (1797-1883- “She experienced a profound vision: ‘The whole world grew bright, an’ the trees…waved in glory, an’ every little bit o’ stone on the ground shone like glass.’” She devoted her life to activism and preaching. (Guideposts: “Historical Figures and Their Divine Experiences,” Amanda Ericson)

William Griffith Wilson (November 26, 1895-1971) used alcohol as a social lubricant and often drank himself senseless. He became a stock speculator who traveled the country with his wife. He evaluated companies for investors. Wilson’s constant drinking ruined his business and reputation. On his fourth visit to a detox center he cried, “If there is a God, let him show himself.” A white light filled the room. Wilson never drank again. Bill W. co-founded Alcoholics Anonymous. Its 12-step program has helped many find sobriety. (Ibid, Wikipedia)

Wilson was a Sagittarius with the Moon in Pisces. He had a stellium in Scorpio. [Saturn 12 d 48’, Mars 18 55,’ Mercury 20 31,’ Uranus 21 04’] Libra Rises with Chiron in the 1st House. No planets are in earth signs. Chiron trine Neptune “brings potential for profound healing and spiritual growth.” (Astromatrix.org)
