Herman’s Head was a cleverly written “high concept” sitcom with some very talented actors that ran for three seasons on FOX in the 90s. This is definitely a 90s TV reboot I’d like to see.
The Story Line
Herman Brooks was an aspiring young writer who worked as a fact-checker for a magazine publisher. While dealing with life in NYC, his inner turmoils were actually represented by different characters, all residing in – you guessed it – his head.
“Angel” was his softer side, “Animal” was her opposite, “Wimp” was his fears and anxieties, and “Genius” was his rational side.
The struggles that went on inside Herman’s head are those that go on in each of us. These are the inner voices that create the mind chatter we hear as we go about our day-to-day lives.
The Astrological Cast of Characters
- Animal, the beer-guzzling and lustful Neanderthal is Mars.
- Genius, the logical-thinking intellectual brainiac, is Mercury.
- Angel, the sensitive and sensual caregiver, is a composite of Moon-Venus.
- Wimp, the conservative voice of caution filled with fears, anxieties, and limitations, is Saturn.
Of course, there are a few more planets than this. Had the writers included this cast of even more outrageous characters in Herman’s inner struggles, well, what went on in Herman’s head would have been not only funny but also a lot more complicated and dramatic.
- Jupiter, the overblown, self-confidant, and self-righteous big mouth.
- Uranus, radical non-conformist.
- Neptune, the romantic with escapist tendencies.
- Pluto, the voice of Svengali
But even without these most interesting characters, in every episode, we laughed as we (unknowingly) saw the planets struggle to get Herman through the many crises in his life.

Laugh and Enjoy!!!
