In his 2016 memoir, Hillbilly Eulogy, J.D. Vance recounts his dark, scary, and traumatic childhood. I haven’t read the book but I did see the movie on Netflix. So, when his birth chart appeared on Facebook, I wasn’t surprised to see that Vance has a Scorpio IC with Mars in Scorpio conjunct the IC (bottled up anger).  There’s a lot you could say about Vance’s life and birth chart but this article focuses on his childhood (IC) and aspirations (MC).

J.D. Vance “Going Home” Interview

Below is an NBC interview from years ago after the publication of his memoir and before he became an Ohio State Senator. The interview, in which he opens up about his painful childhood (Scorpio IC) and his aspirations for his future (Taurus MC), was conducted by Megan Kelly.

Vance was born James Donald Bowman in Middletown, Ohio, on August 2, 1984 at 8:11 AM (Rodden Rating AA).  Following his parents’ divorce, Bowman’s middle name was changed to David and he adopted his stepfather’s last name, Hamel. Vance is his maternal grandparents’ surname (Source).

The Imum Coeli (IC)

The Imum coeli (IC) and the midheaven (MC) are two opposite points in an astrology birth chart that are based on the time and place of birth. The IC shows your ancestral heritage, what your childhood was like, the environment that you grew up in.  And, perhaps, want to escape.

In order to move away from the experiences of your childhood, you push toward and embrace your Midheaven. The Midheaven (MC) is your public image, your reputation, ambitions, and the role you aspire to play in the public arena. The IC contains the roots of the MC. For better or worse experiences in youth influence you throughout life. The IC guides, perhaps even propels, you toward your MC. But you can’t have one without the other.

Scorpio IC

It’s likely the individual had an emotionally chaotic home life. There may have been elements of poverty, alcoholism, drug addiction, physical, sexual, and/or emotional abuse, death, trauma, manipulation or family secrets. Whatever the case, your home environment was emotionally intense and that could have manifested in many different ways.

With a Scorpio IC, the child often felt they had very little personal power, and no control of what happened in their lives.

As they grow older, they try to escape that sense of lack of personal authority and emotional instability by looking for the stability of material success (Taurus MC.)

Taurus MC

With a Taurus Midheaven (MC) over time these individuals have taught themselves to be strong and independent. From their childhood trauma, they’ve learned that slow and steady wins the race, and work to create consistency and a sense of security so they won’t repeat their childhood.

These individuals have a public reputation of being hardworking, practical, and determined people who strive for stability in their career and public life.  However, a Taurus MC is also the “show me the money” MC, and the heart of their aspirations is to make money so they can exercise the personal power and control indicated by the Scorpio IC.

Trump also has a Scorpio IC

According to the daughter of Trump’s older brother, Mary L. Trump in her book, Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man, Trump also had a traumatic childhood.

According to Mary, Trump was ignored by his father and when he did receive his father’s attention, his father constantly yelled at, criticized or punished him. Also for the first two years of little Donald’s life, his mother wasn’t loving and only half heartedly attentive. She then abandoned him for a year.

From the time Trump was born until he was an adult, he witnessed his father verbally abuse and terrorize his older brother (who became an alcoholic and died at age 42). He also witnessed his parents engaged in an emotionally abusive marriage.

Trump’s Taurus MC

You could also say Trump’s a “show me the money” kind of guy. As a matter of fact he’s been quoted as saying

“My whole life I’ve been greedy, greedy, greedy. I’ve grabbed all the money I could get. I’m so greedy. But now I want to be greedy for the United States. I want to grab all that money. I’m going to be greedy for the United States.”

Donald Trump was born in New York, New York on June 14, 1946, at 10:54 AM (Birth Time accuracy: excellent)

Dolly Parton’s Scorpio IC and Taurus MC

Sill don’t jump to conclusions before you take in the entire birth chart. There are many who express their Taurus MC in a positive way. As an example, Dolly Parton also has a Scorpio IC/Taurus MC. From everything I’ve read, Dolly didn’t have a physically or emotionally abusive childhood but she had a hardscrabble upbringing. She overcame the poverty and the hard times of her Hillbilly childhood by working hard and making millions of dollars with her amazing voice and sensual public persona (Taurus MC). But she wasn’t greedy, she started her “Dollywood Foundation” and has, over the years, taken on many different initiatives including hospitals, animal sanctuaries, scholarships, and much more.

In a PBs News article, Dolly Parton’s donation strategy is to ‘just give from my heart’ Dolly is quoted as saying…

“I never quite understood why we have let religion and politics and thing like that stand in the way of just being good human beings. I think it’s important from that standpoint just to feel like you’re doing your part, doing something decent and good and right.”

Dolly Parton was born in Pittman Center, Tennessee, on January 19, 1946, at 8:25 PM (Birth Time accuracy: excellent)

Prisoners of Childhood

In 1979, a revolutionary book titled Prisoners of Childhood was published in German. It was written by German psychologist Alice Miller. Prisoners of Childhood (later titled The Drama of the Gifted Child) was only the first in a series of books by Miller in which she revealed how a wounded childhood can be so overwhelming that it affects the adult a child becomes.
